Derby City Council web maps facilities
Prompted by an extensive refurbishment of their main offices and a move to hot desking and lockers, this council created a spatially enabled directory of facilities
Derby City Council created a spatially enabled directory of facilities for their main offices with Cadcorp web mapping.
The floor plan used for the background is a JPEG with the assets removed. The other assets are then split according to type. The largest dataset shows all the teams, the adjustable desks and the hot desks. Multiple floors are shown as different background maps. Asset data is stored within the SQL database.

Facilities management use an ODBC link in Access to alter the data without the need to go through the GIS team. Asset data can be altered immediately.

A search function was implemented for the intranet site. This allows users to search for a unique asset number, such as a desk or locker.
“We decided that it was beneficial to have the floor plans of the council, house its own dedicated web service so that facilities management could easily see the assets and for people to navigate around the building.”
