Updated user interface, expanded styling options, in-depth analysis and added developer functions

All our Desktop products have increased in functionality and been streamlined into one overarching GIS tool - Cadcorp SIS Desktop.

Here's what's new:

User Interface

  • Updated UI
    • Familiar look and feel of a Microsoft Office Backstage view
    • 'Recent' files list
    • Flat ribbon icons

  • Command search bar: 'Tell me what you want to do'
  • Background job notification
  • Improved cursor feedback and cursor options including crosshairs and construction circle

  • Web Mapping Window for adding Google Maps, Bing Maps, Open Street Map or Azure Maps as a base layer within the current SWD

  • Format pens and brushes in radial or linear gradients

  • Format Painter copies styles from one polygon to another
  • Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) for no-loss resolution of icons. Supplied are Mapbox Maki, Google Material Design and Emoji or add custom symbols using JSON
  • Expression builder for implementing themes
    • Expression themes, which style the feature based on the expression output
    • Particle theme, annotates point features, including pointclouds with a particle
    • Bivariate theme, matches two expressions against a table lookup
    • Offset items in z in 3D Views

  • Padding, Character and Line Spacing text layout options
  • Provision of Markdown text
  • Print templates:
    • Append to PDF
    • Attach table items (included tables with banded rows) and table sizing

  • 136 new processes have been added to improve productivity in SIS Desktop and enhance the GeognoSIS HTTP API
  • Getis-Ord Gi* hotspot analysis

  • Scatter Grid, KDE and Gi* analysis results can now be displayed as polygons in a range tessellation shapes including rectangles, hexagons or rhombic (diamond) and circular rhombic.
  • Clustering and dispersal
    • Clustering takes points within a defined polygon or grid and creates a single cluster point, or cluster points, at a location
    • Disperse allows the user to disperse points held over the same x and y so that it can be viewed easily. Numerous patterns are available within a polygon
    • Rubber sheeting has been created as a process and provides greater interaction

  • Convex and Concave hull functions can be used to interpolate polygons from a set of features using an algorithm which is suitable for the analysis

  • Temporal datasets can now be analysed in motion, using date and time ranges to isolate mapping features through a dedicated toolbar

  • Point to Point routing can now be performed on OSRM databases, providing static but fast routing analysis alongside existing dynamic network datasets
  • Support has been added for large point cloud datasets, such as LIDAR, to be rendered and visualised quickly in 2D and 3D windows

  • Cadcorp SIS now stores curves in spatial databases, rather than facetted lines

  • SIS Desktop now features a dedicated SQL console. This builds data layers, features and attributes into database tables, rows and columns and allows automation, analysis and data manipulation through SQL scripts
  • Support for a range of PointCloud datasets has been added including:
    • ASPRS LAS (.las;.laz)
    • Binary Point Format (BPF) (*.bpf)
    • ILVIS2 (*.txt)
    • Optech Corrected Sensor Data (*.csd)
    • PDAL Pipeline (*.json)
    • Leica Cyclone PTS (*.pts)
    • ATM QFIT (*.qi)
    • SBET (*.sbet)
    • TerraSolid .bin file (*.bin)
    • ASCII Text Format (XYZ) (*.txt)
  • Inputs & outputs. The folowing data formats can now be used in Cadcorp SIS:
    • Mapbox MBTiles – read only with support for Mapbox Style Specification files and URLs
    • OGC GeoPackage – these can be opened for read or edit, with vector export
    • Some specialised data products are supported in these new formats, including OS Open Zoomstack Trial (OGC GeoPackage and MapBox Tiles)
    • PDF files can now be read directly into SIS Desktop
    • When creating PDF output, this can now be appended to an existing PDF file
    • AutoCAD 2018 – read and write

  • Extensive list of additional spatial test (ST_) functions and processes, including routing, scatter grid creation, Getis-Ord (Gi*) spatial statistics, viewsheds and Kernel Density Estimation Grid Items
  • New expression functions have been added which operate on all of the Items in the Overlay (MIN, MAX, SUM, AVG)
  • New and more efficient syntax decision making can be achieved by using CASE/THEN/ELSE/END in expressions
  • The HTTP API now:
    • can access the GeognoSIS administration API
    • can return the geometry and schema column information for single and multiple features
    • allows data for multiple Items to be returned in a single query
    • allows access to extended property information in a single query
    • allows the caching of temporary objects to provide faster second and successive requests for incremental sets of Items
    • supports pageable FeatureCollections
