Learning from others. Using location intelligence for housing management.
The conference theme
The housing and planning bill which reached report stage in January of this year, includes measures, which if implemented, would radically change the way social housing is delivered in the UK. These include extending the right to buy to housing association tenants in England, and a plan to reduce the rent of social housing by 1% each year for four years starting 2016. The upshot is that housing associations will have to do more with less – less stock and less funding. Many will be torn between the desire to pursue a historic role defined by social purpose, and having to build for sale and rent on the open market.
Whatever measures are ultimately included in the legislation, one thing is likely: the management of housing will become a more complex activity. Housing managers will be expected to make decisions based on the simultaneous consideration of a number of different data sets. These include the characteristics of the housing stock, its value, the land it sits upon, and increasingly the demographics and financial circumstances of its tenants. A greater use of information technology will be inevitable, and we may find geography assuming a bigger role in business intelligence systems.
This conference is an opportunity for housing professionals to explore the potential use of this intelligence – location intelligence – by learning from the experiences of others, both in the housing profession and elsewhere.
What you will learn
We will cover the following topics: using mobile devices to interact with tenants, delivering web mapping as a shared service, customising web mapping for different housing teams, integrating location intelligence with a housing management system, and using map data to identify properties at risk from subsidence and other perils.
There will be an opportunity to hear how location intelligence is being used in market sectors other than housing. You will hear how local government is successfully using location intelligence to encourage customer self-service and channel shift, and how the sector is reaping cost savings as a result. Attendees will also hear how the emergency services are using location intelligence to optimise the way they are deploying reduced resources, without compromising performance.
Who should attend
This free-to-attend conference is aimed at business, IT and GIS managers from the UK social housing sector. Its objective is to emphasise the practical contribution of GIS and web mapping to the challenges faced by the social housing sector, by learning from others. The forum will be equally relevant to those housing associations considering investing in GIS technology for the first time, and to those housing associations looking to get more from their existing investment in GIS.
Attendees will have the opportunity to network over a free lunch with like-minded professionals.
