Devon & Cornwall Police and Dorset Police have selected Cadcorp SIS Desktop, Cadcorp SIS WebMap and the web services engine Cadcorp GeognoSIS® as its enterprise corporate GIS. The procurement includes Cadcorp support, training, and a range of related professional services.

Devon & Cornwall Police entered a strategic alliance with Dorset Police to improve delivery, resilience, and flexibility as well as to increase efficiency in over 30 administrative and operational business areas. By working more closely together as Devon & Cornwall Police and Dorset Police, the aim is to maintain effective policing over a vast geographical area while reducing costs. The partnership recognised the requirement to rationalise its mapping applications, improve efficiency, and support its goal of being the safest place in the country.

Devon & Cornwall Police, in partnership with Dorset Police, selected a wholly integrated corporate GIS from Cadcorp. SIS Desktop will provide them with the analytical capability required by UK police forces, including KDE hotspots, temporal analysis, routing analysis and Gi*. Both forces are committed to being more proactive and present in the community. It will integrate historical incident and crime data in SIS Desktop to create pre-emptive detailed patrol plans and improve the availability of specialist police teams.

SIS WebMap will be used in the control room to display resource locations and help improve officer safety and response times. As SIS WebMap is also available via mobile devices, officers on the beat will be able to view a variety of relevant data based on their current location.

Cadcorp extensive data format support will allow Devon & Cornwall Police and Dorset Police to integrate SIS Desktop and SIS WebMap with a range of applications, including Sopra Steria STORM command and control, police records management system NicheRMS, and the Idox Gazetteer Management System.

“The visual representation of data that the Cadcorp mapping system provides is dynamic, making information and location quick and easy to consume. Cadcorp corporate GIS and web mapping meets our requirements and provides best value for both our organisations. It will help us keep building a more transparent, proactive, sustainable and resilient service for our communities.”

About Devon & Cornwall Police
We are the largest territorial Police Force in England – covering approximately 4,000 square miles, 550 miles of peninsula coastline and a road network of 13,000 miles. Policing an area this size presents many challenges, with the needs of rural, coastal and urban communities at the forefront of the Police’s approach to tackling crime.

The geographical area covered is the largest for any police force in England, and the fifth largest in the United Kingdom. The total resident population of the force area is approximately 1.5 million, with around 11 million visitors annually.

About Dorset Police
Dorset is one of the safest places in the UK to live.

Dorset Police is committed to making the county an even safer and better place to live in, work in and visit, but we can’t do it on our own. Throughout history policing has been most effective when the community and the police work together, helping each other to reduce crime and the fear of crime.
