Housing and land management professionals joined us in Birmingham for the Cadcorp Housing Conference 2025 to learn more about the applications and benefits of GIS and web mapping for Housing Associations. During the conference, we explored the ways GIS and the latest location data are used to support both day-to-day operations and longer-term planning.

After a Land & Property sector update from Cadcorp, Vico Homes showed how they are optimising service charges with a GIS-driven approach to Grounds Maintenance. This was followed by a presentation on the Benefits of GIS for day-to-day housing operations, and a demonstration of how efficiency and cost savings could be achieved for damp and mould inspections, gutter maintenance, answering customer queries, and creating conveyance plans with Cadcorp SIS Desktop.

GIS also plays a crucial role in identifying land development opportunities. Orbit presented on how they migrated from cumbersome, multiple-linked, macro-enabled spreadsheets to using Cadcorp SIS WebMap to appraise land opportunities more efficiently.

As an Ordnance Survey® Premium Partner, Cadcorp works closely with Housing Associations to license their spatial data. The latest OS National Geographic Database (OS NGD) provides a single store for feature-rich location data. Information from OS NGD Buildings is particularly useful for enriching and validating the data that Housing Associations hold about their assets. Ordnance Survey presented a number of use cases for OS NGD Buildings for the Housing Market, illustrating how the data can be implemented to improve planning and development, energy efficiency and sustainability, risk assessment and compliance, and operational efficiency.

Housing association and developer L&Q then shared the benefits they gained from integrating their business data into a map and how it’s used to inform their cyclical decorations investment programme.

Improving contact with residents is a key goal for Housing Associations. In our presentation ‘Succeeding at Community Engagement with GIS’, we demonstrated how a public-facing web map can help meet tenant satisfaction measures by making information about a home, its locality, and the surrounding area easily accessible. Register for our webinar on 9th December 2025 to learn more.

NEC Software Solutions provided an overview of their comprehensive housing platform, highlighting both recent developments and their extensive industry knowledge.

Housing Associations continue to strive towards meeting sustainability goals by using GIS to pinpoint properties that currently have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating below band C. We demonstrated how GIS supports long-term sustainability by enabling the visualisation and analysis of underperforming properties, intelligently identifying opportunities for solar energy to reduce residents’ energy consumption, and calculating the nearest maintenance technician to minimise fuel usage and travel distance.

The conference concluded with the popular ‘GIS top tips’ session, where we shared advice on how users can achieve further operational efficiencies using their Cadcorp GIS and web mapping software.

Collaboration was a central theme throughout the conference, allowing delegates to network and exchange ideas.

“I always enjoy the relaxed yet collaborative nature of your conferences.”

Jessica Rieck, GIS Analyst, Vico Homes
