Mobile mapping and data capture for the Pocket PC

Cadcorp Mobile Spatial Information System (mSIS) is an easy to use mobile mapping and data capture application designed specifically for the Pocket PC platform.

The mSIS solution consists of two software parts: a project management component - mSIS Office – running on a PC, and a data capture system - mSIS Mobile – running on a Pocket PC.

Cadcorp mSIS Office lets project managers define and control projects from their PC. The software includes an integrated and easy-to-use XML Schema Editor. Its logic tree allows a project manager to quickly and easily define different data schema for a variety of different data capture projects. Once projects have been defined, the schema and data can be transferred quickly and easily to field operatives equipped with mSIS Mobile on Pocket PC.

mobile spatial information systemmSIS Mobile allows users to view geospatial data on the Pocket PC, and to create and edit both vector geometry and alphanumeric data on the device. Data can be captured using a combination of user input and automated GPS coordinate input. Captured data can be transferred back to mSIS Office for incorporation into office-based projects, and the data shared with other people and systems

mSIS supports a number of native File Formats and Raster Formats. It can be used - at no additional cost - with any GPS receiver supporting NMEA 0183 formatted GPS messages, to create GPS point, line and area vectors.

Pocket PC devices are increasingly powerful in terms of onboard processors, memory sizes and colour display. Expansion is easy, with linkage to GPS receivers, mobile telecommunications and desktop PCs using card slots, serial, USB or infrared ports. If a Pocket PC has an inbuilt camera, mSIS software can be used to georeference captured images automatically.
