Press ReleaseDerbyshire Fire & Rescue Service moves to Cadcorp SIS for its new corporate geographic information system (GIS). Cadcorp software will provide common access to disparate information sets via Web and desktop. Digital mapping and geographic information systems (GIS) software developer Cadcorp has announced that Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service has selected the Cadcorp SIS – Spatial Information System software suite as the basis for the service’s new, corporate GIS. The new software, comprising Cadcorp SIS desktop, developer and GeognoSIS.NET Web-based GIS products, will enhance Derbyshire’s existing GIS applications. “To support our Integrated Risk Management Planning (IRMP) and Fire Service Emergency Cover (FSEC) processes into the future, as well as helping us to achieve our Comprehensive Performance Assessment (CPA) targets, we needed a future-proofed GIS that allows us to integrate and use geographically referenced data from a number of existing databases and through a common user interface,” said Pete Garyga, ICT projects officer, Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service. “Cadcorp SIS meets and indeed exceeded our requirements, within our budget, by providing both Web-based and desktop solutions on a common GIS platform.” Multiple applications The new GIS will be used to assist a wide range of Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service’s activities, including: IRMP and the integration of this with the service’s enterprise information system; FSEC; fire safety, for example planning fire home safety checks and leaflet drops; hydrants and property maintenance management; transport planning and vehicle location identification; and management reporting, such as fire station performance. Easy-to-use, Intranet-based access to the system will be provided service-wide using Cadcorp GeognoSIS.NET. For example; fire station staff will enter fire prevention and home safety checks information, etc., using a web browser interface. Meanwhile, ‘power’ users such as the FSEC, MODAS, hydrant, property and transport teams, as well as CAD system operators and the ICT development team, will use the Cadcorp SIS desktop products to analyse and maintain data and to develop the system. “As well as enabling us to analyse and to present information in a way that is easy-to-understand, using a common access and delivery method, via the intranet, we also expect our new GIS to help us overcome the problem of having information duplicated across various databases,” said Garyga. “That would provide a very real benefit in terms of helping to ensure that information is always accurate and current.” “We are delighted that Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service has joined the growing number of fire and rescue services in the UK that have made the decision to base their GIS on Cadcorp SIS,” said Mike O’Neil, managing director, Cadcorp. “We look forward to working with Derbyshire to help them achieve their targets.” About Cadcorp Established in 1991, Cadcorp is a leading UK developer of digital mapping and geographic information systems (GIS) software.
