Press Release

Soha Housing selects Cadcorp SIS as its new geographic information system.

Cadcorp software will replace housing association’s existing CAD-based system.

Digital mapping and geographic information systems (GIS) software developer Cadcorp has announced that housing association Soha Housing has selected the Cadcorp SIS – Spatial Information System software suite as the basis of its new corporate GIS. The Cadcorp software will replace Soha’s existing, stand-alone CAD-based system.

Cadcorp SIS will be used by Soha Housing to make its Ordnance Survey mapping, land terrier and housing stock information available for the first time to all staff that need it. Initially the new GIS will be used by staff responsible for accessing and maintaining terrier and grounds maintenance information. Future proposed developments include providing links from the GIS to a number of databases in order for staff to access a variety of information via the system’s map-based user interface.

The ability of Cadcorp SIS to read and display, on-the-fly, a wide variety of proprietary and industry-standard GIS, CAD, vector, raster and database formats, including legacy data from Soha’s existing CAD-based system, was one of the reasons given by the association for selecting the Cadcorp software.

“We decided on Cadcorp SIS for our new GIS for several reasons,” said Penny Gotch, legal services manager, Soha Housing. “We liked the fact that, because the whole Cadcorp SIS software suite is based on a common architecture, we could select the level of functionality to suit our present needs and then simply add new functionality in the future as needed. Its ability to read and display data from our existing system, without translation, was also an important factor in our decision, as was the software’s support for Ordnance Survey MasterMap™. We were also impressed by the knowledgeable approach of the Cadcorp team and of the level of support they provided”, she added.

“As more and more housing associations, such as Soha Housing, make the decision to migrate their digital mapping/GIS applications to OS MasterMap, Cadcorp’s tools for loading and managing OS MasterMap data become increasingly important to our customers in making the transition as smooth and painless as possible”, said Philip Lines, partner alliance manager, Ordnance Survey Great Britain. “Cadcorp and Ordnance Survey will continue to work together to enable our joint customers, including Soha Housing, to successfully adopt OS MasterMap”, he added.

“We are delighted that Soha Housing has selected Cadcorp SIS for its new GIS”, said Mike O’Neil, managing director, Cadcorp, “as it means another UK housing association has decided that Cadcorp software represents the best way forward for it in terms of developing and managing its housing stock, as well as the best value for money in GIS.”
