Press Release

North Warwickshire Borough Council selects Cadcorp SIS for its new corporate geographic information system.

Cadcorp software will be adopted to provide the council with latest Web-based GIS capabilities.

Digital mapping and geographic information systems (GIS) software developer Cadcorp has announced that North Warwickshire Borough Council (NWBC) has selected the Cadcorp SIS – Spatial Information System software suite as the basis of its new corporate GIS.

Cadcorp SIS will replace the council’s existing GIS and will both support the council’s adoption of Ordnance Survey MasterMap to underpin its digital mapping/GIS applications and enable it to meet current e-Government service delivery targets.

Cadcorp will deliver Cadcorp SIS desktop and Cadcorp GeognoSIS.NET Web-enabled software and will assist NWBC in their implementation. The new GIS will be available via the council’s corporate intranet to most departments to support service delivery in areas such as borough care, planning, streetscape, environmental health, housing, facilities management and maintenance of the Local Land and Property Gazetteer (LLPG).

“Cadcorp demonstrated that its software offers all of the functionality that was required for the council to meet its e-Government targets and more,” said Chris Cooper, project manager, GIS and LLPG custodian for North Warwickshire Borough Council. “The drive towards e-Government meant that any system had to be versatile, be able to link with other systems currently in use and be
user friendly. Cadcorp SIS delivers on all of these needs, as well as having the capability to be customised in house, so that we have the flexibility to meet future requirements”, he added.

Cadcorp SIS will be integrated with the council's existing planning system and gazetteer to realise efficiency gains across planning and LLPG functions. NWBC will also make use of the built-in support for Global Positioning System (GPS) devices introduced with Cadcorp SIS V6.2. An interface to the council’s environmental health application, Flare, will enable the team to use GPS to automate data capture in the field while maintaining data accuracy.

In addition, the use of Cadcorp GeognoSIS.NET will improve communication between citizens and the council. For example, service users will be able to locate council facilities and use the Internet to report anti-social activities, for example fly-tipping (illegal waste disposal). This will provide the cleansing teams with an up-to-date map of the area concerned and help to resolve service requests speedily. It will also help NWBC meet regulations concerning Web accessibility under the Disability Discrimination Act.

“We are delighted that North Warwickshire Borough Council has selected Cadcorp SIS to help it achieve its e-Government targets,” said Mike O’Neil, managing director, Cadcorp. “Just like many local authorities in the UK, the data interoperability and Web capabilities of Cadcorp SIS have been recognised by North Warwickshire as a cost-effective way of extending the use of their existing data to improve the level of service they provide to their citizens.”
