Press ReleaseCity of Lincoln Council selects Cadcorp SIS software for its new, corporate-wide GIS. Cadcorp software will help council meet its e-Government targets and improve customer service. Digital mapping and geographic information systems (GIS) software developer Cadcorp has announced that City of Lincoln Council has selected the Cadcorp SIS – Spatial Information System software suite as its new corporate GIS. Cadcorp will deliver and assist City of Lincoln Council in the implementation within all four directorates of the council of Cadcorp SIS Map Modeller, Map Editor and Map Manager desktop digital mapping/GIS software. The software will help the council in its drive for increased efficiency and will enable it to meet its agreed e-Government targets. “This is our first corporate-wide GIS and replaces our existing partial systems. It will also augment our existing planning and building control systems”, said Richard Whitlam, GIS officer, City of Lincoln Council. “We selected Cadcorp SIS because it combines high functionality with ease-of-use and was also considered to provide the best value for money,” he added.
The ability of Cadcorp SIS to read and display more than 120 GIS, CAD and database formats on the fly, without translation, will result in improved data sharing across the authority. City of Lincoln Council’s new, corporate GIS will also result in improvements in efficiency, the presentation of information and customer service. “We are delighted that, as experienced GIS users, City of Lincoln Council has selected Cadcorp SIS to replace its existing system in order to satisfy its need for corporate-wide GIS capability,” said Mike O’Neil, managing director, Cadcorp. “We look forward to working with the council to help it meet its e-Government and customer service targets.” About the City of Lincoln Council The City of Lincoln is one of five principal urban areas in the East Midlands area of the UK. It is the administrative centre of the county of Lincolnshire and one of seven districts within the county. The City Council operates within a two-tier local government system and is in a unique position within the county, being a small, predominantly densely populated urban area within a large, rural and sparsely populated county. Whilst the City of Lincoln is relatively small, with a tightly drawn administrative boundary covering 3,571 hectares and a population of 85,600, the City Council in real terms serves a significantly higher ‘Greater Lincoln’ population. The City of Lincoln is one of the oldest in Great Britain, being essentially Roman and medieval in origin and has benefited from almost 2000 years of local government. It has enjoyed the privilege of a Mayoral office since 1206, this being one of the oldest in England. It also benefits from having 11 conservation areas, 24 Scheduled Ancient Monument sites, 415 listed buildings, 250,000 staying visitors and 2.9 million day visitors per year. Tourism is worth approximately £118 million ($180 million) per year to the City.
